Marta's recent work continues her exploration into mixed media collages.
Using photos, textiles, wire, cardboard, stones, dried plants, found objects
and ephmera, this
new collage work adds a tactile and three dimensional aspect to her canvases
while still
retaining the core influences seen in her other paintings: bright colors,
images from her childhood, the spirit worlds of both Buddhism and the
ancient Maya, and just plain whimsy.
The Clay Bags Series began during the pandemic when
Marta stumbled upon a stack of burlap bags scavenged from a worksite
almost
10 years before. The bags formally held potter's clay. After a good cleaning,
Marta experimented with the bags, both painting and adding collage items
to them. Since she kept the bags intact, it created a unique "pocketed"
art work with space to add fresh or dried flowers, branches with foliage,
dried herbs or feathers.
The bags are approximately 15" x 24".
